Time.com listed the 15 Highest Paying Jobs that Do Not Require a College Degree.

Wait! There's more to see than just the enumerated jobs.

Image via Wordle.Net

The article provided a table showing that 5 out of the 15 high paying jobs listed looks promising to be in demand up to 2022. Elevator Installers and Repairers who enjoy a median annual pay of $76, 650 has a projected job growth of 24%.

Transportation Inspectors (Pay $63, 680; Job Growth 11.2%)
Commercial Pilots (Pay $73, 280; Job Growth 9.4%)
Electrical Power Line Installers and Reparers (Pay $63, 250; Job Growth 8.9%)
Subway and Streetcar Operators (Pay $62, 730; Job Growth 6.5%)

A college diploma is an advantage in getting employed. But to those who weren't fortunate enough to finish their degrees in college, getting any of the 15 jobs listed would still be great.

Joshua Wright wrote about the most in-demand engineering jobs in the United States today in Forbes.com.

Based on that report, Petroleum engineers and industrial engineers appear to be in high demand because jobs in these two disciplines grew by 30% and 10% respectively from 2010 to 2014. Another thing to consider about these two jobs is that 25% of currently employed in both fields are 55 years old and above. Vacancy projections for this two positions in the next 5 years are encouraging.

Other in demand jobs cited in the report are civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and electronics engineer.

By the way, I am currently practicing my ECE degree. So, this is good news for me. I will be on the look out for electronics engineering jobs and perhaps even electrical engineering jobs in the U.S.

In closing, just a word of caution to all engineers seeking opportunities in the US or in any other country. Let us all beware of unscrupulous people using high demand jobs such as this one to scam us and get our hard earned money.

For students, summers are much-awaited vacation and relaxation time to tour beautiful places or to relax at the nearest beach. Google, however, has this to say to students who are into computer programming and coding.

If you’re a university student with CS chops looking to earn real-world experience this summer, consider writing code for a cool open source project with the Google Summer of Code program.

Know the complete details at the official google blog. But here, I think, is the best reason to try to be accepted;

Students who are accepted into the program will put the skills they have learned in university to good use by working on an actual software project over the summer. Students are paired with mentors to help address technical questions and concerns throughout the course of the project. With the knowledge and hands-on experience students gain during the summer they strengthen their future employment opportunities in fields related to their academic pursuits. Best of all, more source code is created and released for the use and benefit of all.

How do you know if you're qualified? Check this page.

I hope that a Filipino student programmer can be accepted.

Scammers do not rest in trying to get hard earned cash of people looking for a better way of life abroad. This time, their target are Filipinos wanting to work in Russia with visa scams.

The Philippine Embassy in Moscow has warned Filipinos wanting to work in Russia about a visa scam. Scammers are on the look-out for Filipinos wanting a speedy release of their visa to Russia, offering their services for a substantial fee.

Interested Filipinos should refer to the following basic visa information provided by the Philippine consulate:

The appropriate visa for living and working legally in Russia is a “WORKING” visa.

Holders of “COMMERCIAL,” “BUSINESS,” “TOURIST,” or “STUDENT” visas are not allowed to work in Russia.

A “WORKING” visa must be obtained from a Russian Embassy or Consulate prior to arrival in Russia. It must be arranged by the Russian employer who invites the foreign worker.

A “WORKING” visa allows employment with the inviting company/individual only and not with any other entity.

“COMMERCIAL,” “BUSINESS,” “TOURIST,” and “STUDENT” visas cannot be legally converted to “WORKING” visas while holder is in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is proposing the following changes to the FSWP:

Making language the most important selection factor by establishing new minimum official language thresholds and increasing points for language;

Increasing the emphasis on younger immigrants, who are more likely to acquire valuable Canadian experience and remain in the workforce longer;

Increasing points for Canadian work experience and reducing points for foreign work experience;

Simplifying the arranged employment process to prevent fraud and abuse yet enable employers to staff positions quickly; and

Awarding points for spousal language ability and Canadian experience.

Other important aspects of the proposed revised FSWP are:

Mandatory Educational Credential Assessment

improvements to the Canadian Experience Class

creation of a new Federal Skilled Trades Program

The proposed changes will take effect when CIC starts again to accept applicants under the FSWP early 2013. Know more about this important update by reading the official statement of the Revised Federal Skilled Worker Program of Canada here.

My takeaway for the proposed changes are (1) that aspiring immigrants need to to be competent in the Canadian English and/or French language, (2) age will now be a factor and (3) education attained need to be on par with Canada's education level. Those are something to prepare for if you consider migrating to Canada under FSWP. Best of luck. :)

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) is the border control agency of the British government and an Executive Agency of the Home Office. It was formed on 1 April 2008 by a merger of the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA), UKvisas and the Detection functions of HM Revenue and Customs. The decision to create a single border control organisation was taken following a Cabinet Office report.

The agency is divided into three broad command structures, each under the management of a senior director:

external controls including visa issue in overseas posts

borders, including passport and customs controls

internal immigration controls including asylum, management of applications for further stay and enforcement.

Its head office is 2 Marsham Street, London. The current Chief Executive is Rob Whiteman.

from Wikipedia

Some of these scams are:

Foreign criminals advertising fake UK jobs on the internet. Individuals that apply are told they have a job and are directed to a link to pay for visa and work permit fees. These websites are not operated by us, and you should not click on any of the links or pay any money.

Students at a number of UK universities have received calls from individuals who claim they work for the UK Border Agency, giving a false name and a return phone number. These calls are not from the UK Border Agency. The caller may appear to be genuine and convincing and explain that there is a serious problem with your immigration status, and that you need to send a payment as soon as possible to prevent further action including deportation..

A request for payment of a deposit as proof that you have sufficient funds to support your arrival in the UK until your first salary is received..

Read the full advisory at the official UK Border Agency website especially the part on what to do and who to contact.

I pray that all those UK immigrant hopefuls will be safe against scammers and UK Border Agency Posers.

As such, Citizenship and Immigration Canada proposed to close the files of FSW applicants who applied before February 27, 2008, and for whom an immigration officer has not made a decision based on selection criteria by March 29, 2012. These are applicants who have been waiting for more than 7 years now. In a speech at the Economic Club of Canada Event last week, The Honourable Jason Kenney, P.C., M.P. Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism mentioned three ways they are exploring to reduce the immigrationn (FSW) backlog. Citizenship and Immigration Canada is actively thinking of solution to FSW Backlog. This, however, includes an option to legislate away immigration backlogs.

FSW Backlog Reduction Pilot Program

We recently received letter of invitation for 130 clients whose FSW application was filed before Fenruary 27, 2008 to apply under the FSW Reduction Pilot Project. The aim of this pilot is to nominate FSW applicants with experience in kev occupations under Provincial Nominee Programs. Applicants are being selected based on the indicated province of their destination and their declared work experience. If selected, you have to submit your application as soon as possible. There is a limit on the number of applications to be accepted and this is a limited time offer only. IELTS Examination result is required, but this shouldn't really be a problem for those who did what we have been suggesting for quite a time now - that you should be ready all the time.

Get ready for July 2012

Whether you are yet to file your application or you have a pending FSW application filed before February 27, 2008, you should get your documents ready NOW in time for another window of opportunity this coming July 2012. Changes will most likely be implemented and it is best if you will prepare for it as early as now.

Language Proficiency is the key
The proposed new points system gives more value to language proficiency and less on work experience. There will be a required minimum level of language profiency depending on the applicant's occupation skills. This means a lower language requirement for a Welder than a Nurse. The maximum points to be awarded for proficiency in the first official language may be increased from 16 to 20. If you want to get ready for July 2012, schedule your IELTS Examination NOW!

Credentails Assessment
Canada may soon copy Australia's immigration program by requiring applicants in regulated/licensed occupations to have their professional credentials approved first before they may apply. This process may take time. If you want to be ready, this is one thing you may want to consider doing as early as now. Besides, you will really need this process if you plan to practice your profession in Canada. Furthemore, With your professional credentials approved, it would be easier for you to fina a job offer from Canada. With a job offer, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada even if your occupation is not included in the priority occupations.

For those who haven't done yet, log on to http://clients.go2canada.com for fill up your application forms.
